VIDEO: Renters Outspend Owners on Housing
The housing spending gap between owners and renters is growing.
According to the October Core Logic US Housing and Mortgage Trends, renters now spend 5% more of their monthly budgets on housing costs than homeowners. And as rents rise, the gap is expected to widen. Since 1985, housing expenses have taken up 12% more of the average homeowner’s households budget. Renters, however, have had to allocate 22% more of their budget to housing expenses.
